Moments to explain
Signal library
Each signal is something your child does that means something. The more you confirm it, the sooner My Voice offers it.

What they explored quietly
Taps made in Explore quietly mode. Words that come up again and again may be new interests.
Stories, routines and practice
Short picture stories prepare your child for new things. Routines show "first, then". Sound practice offers a calm, low-pressure way to try sounds, with a reward you choose.

Sound practice
LuminAAC doesn't grade speech. It counts the tries your child marks, so you and your therapist can see what they're working on.

Videos and games
Pick videos your child loves and the words that go with them. Watching becomes a reason to talk, and what they choose helps you see their interests. Read the guide for videos and games

Pictures load from YouTube. Leave this off to use your emoji instead.
Videos play in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode with no autoplay, no comments and no suggested videos at the end. Your child never needs a Google account.

Weekly goals
Goals are for you, not your child. Games never show a fail or take anything away.
Potty Path
A calm toilet routine that teaches your child a way to say "I need to go". Asking always counts most. It's a support tool, not medical advice: check with your child's doctor first. Read the guide for Potty Path

Sound Path
Short, playful voice practice that builds new sounds, then syllables, then words, while the talker stays your child's reliable voice. Built from current research; it's practice support, not therapy. Share the SLP sheet with your speech therapist. Read the guide for Sound Path

Safe zones
OffGet a gentle alert when your child arrives at or leaves a place you choose, like home or school. Off until you turn it on.
Water danger zones
OffMany children who wander are drawn to water. LuminAAC can find mapped ponds, pools, rivers and lakes near your safe zones and send an urgent alert if your child gets close.
Turn on safe zones first.
Location privacy
- Location is checked only on the My Voice device, only while it's open, and only after you turn this on.
- The device compares its position with your zones itself. It sends just "arrived" or "left", plus where, to your own LuminAAC server.
- Exact locations on alerts are deleted after 24 hours. No location history is kept.
- Teachers, therapists and share links never see location.
Recent zone events
When the app is closed
Honestly: a web app can't watch zones in the background. Browsers stop location as soon as My Voice is closed, the screen locks, or the tab is hidden. Installing it as an app helps it open faster and work offline, but it doesn't change this.
- Quiet-device alert: while My Voice shares location, it checks in every few minutes. If it goes quiet for longer than the time you choose, your server sends you an alert, so silence never looks like "all fine".
- Background zones: the LuminAAC phone app (built from the same code with Capacitor) can use the phone's own geofencing. See native/README.md.
Account and devices
Your account
Not signed inYou don't need an account. LuminAAC works fully on this device. An account lets your team sign in with their own role, and lets you pair devices.

Devices
Pair your child's tablet or another caregiver's phone. Each device gets its own key that you can switch off at any time.

Sync, alerts and share links
Optional. Connect to a LuminAAC server you run (see backend/) to sync between devices, get "I need help" alerts on your phone, and send read-only links to a teacher or therapist. Recordings never leave this device.
Feeling estimates
When you explain a recorded moment, LuminAAC can guess how it sounded (excited, calm, upsetโฆ) from pitch, loudness and pace. The guess is made on this device, is labelled as an estimate, and only counts once you confirm it.
The speech feelings model isn't downloaded.
Help improve suggestions for everyone
Optional and off by default. LuminAAC can learn which suggestions tend to help (by time of day, place and feeling), right here on this device. If you join, only a small set of numbers is sent: it is clipped, blurred with random noise, and mixed with other families' numbers so the server can only see the total. Moments, words, recordings and names are never sent.
